Although summer and its heat may be considered emblematical of love (while winter and its cold are emblematical of the absence of love, cf. here p. 529), but this symbolism has nothing to do with a summer like this, for sure. When heat influences the ability to think clearly, it becomes impossible to seek consolation in philosophy. So it only remains to seek consolation in art (‘Seek consolation in art,’ I said to him. / Yakov Pasinkov, The Diary of a Superfluous Man and Other Stories by Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev)

The following photos may be seen in Talkingdrum’s Gallery on deviantART.  The model’s name is Summer.

Ukraine’s climate and weather is continental, but tempered by the Black Sea; winters and summers are rather temperate near the coast and harsher inland… The mean July temperatures are about 23°C (73°F) in the southwest and 19°C (66°F) in the northeast… (Ukraine: weather and seasons: when to travel)

This summer in Ukraine is anomalous, indeed. Weather Channel predicts up to 92°F (34°C) for the weekend. “For Russia expect a dry, very warm summer’s day and this extends across Belarus into Poland, the Ukraine into Germany” (Weather Online).

The hottest July was in 1931 with about 97°F (36°C) on July 16. It seems like a new weather record may be set. At least, a positive point is that it is higher than eighty-three degrees Fahrenheit.

The following image was taken (according to information provided) in a small village of Letki, not far from Kiev in 2007.

Despite the fact I can add anything about this particular image or the photographer, I’ve decided to blog it because 1) the image is nice, I think, and 2) it appeared hard to find nice and tasteful nudist photos, non-commercial and taken without any intrusion into personal life, from the region of my current residence.

Here it is: Summer camping in Ukraine.

Naturist holidays shouldn’t start and end at the nudist beach. Browsing the German sites I’ve encountered a few interesting (and less common, at least for someone) options. I decided to make a note of them, just in case.

(1) Nude riding
Those impressed by the legend of Lady Godiva may try to ride naked in the meadows on the south of Bonn. Michael Zauels, who organizes the rides, is quoted to say

The meadows and roads where we ride are very isolated. Sometimes we meet walkers with their dogs, but we come across very favorably.

Rides take place from May to October. The tour may take up from a half to four hours.

(2) Nude Sailing
German company with its own charter yachts, own base and German skippers organizes one-week and ten-day trips through the Greek islands of the northern Sporades. Sailing experience is not necessary.

(3) Hiking in a birthday suit
Don’t you know that the origins of Nacktwanderns (Naked hiking) go back to the beginning of the last century, when the first pioneers dressed in a romantic understanding of nature started practicing nude walks? Nude hikers prefer small groups and less busy roads. Their website explains that

In random encounters with other hikers we meet occasionally with baffled, but consistently positive reactions.

The hiking tours in Sauerland and in the Taunus are scheduled for April. May will begin with the walk in the Harz. The registration form to participate in the events is provided.

(4) Naked bike ride to the Baltic sea
The Udesom island on the Baltic sea was mentioned twice in my blog (on the occasion of the so called ‘Nudist war‘, see links below). Those German nudist who prefer cycling rather than riding may participate in a Nacktradeltour (Naked bike tour) from Berlin to Usedom. The tour is scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 8, 2010.

Usedom: Addendum

The past year was tied for the second warmest since 1880 according to a new analysis of global surface temperatures by NASA scientists. Year 2009 was a small fraction of a degree cooler than 2005, the warmest on record (The full article can be found on ScienceDaily).

The hot summer of 2009 is followed by a cold winter. BBC Weather forecast for Kiev gives low temperatures all week, and night temperatures around -25°C (-13°F) for the next several days. Now is not the best time for many northern hemisphere naturists.

So, this weekend I’d like to blog the photos from the southern hemisphere, another side of the globe, where it is summer right now. And here are the photographs by Luiz Tadeu Duarte from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil (ltduarte on Flickr). These images are from his Ensaio 1 set on Flickr.

I would only say that, in my opinion, the photos are excellent and suggest to visit the Photographer’s gallery. When you see the work of a true artist, you begin to understand how art differs from anything else.
