After some delay, I’d like to post new weekend photos. I’ve already written about my interest in self-portraits.

Since Albrecht Dürer began a series of painted self-portraits in 1493 that provided insight into the changing nature of his character and beliefs over a lifetime, artists have expressed numerous inner concerns through self-portraits. Self-portraits allow artists to show awareness of their own appearance and traits, producing evidence of the intricacies of their lives. … Self-portraits can be projections of the self that represent you as you are, or they can present hidden aspects of the self, sometimes revealing a secret self. (from Light and lens: photography in the digital age by Robert Hirsch, MAKING PORTRAITS: WHO AM I AND WHO ARE YOU?)

So I cannot pass over the self-portraits by Czekoladowe-Ciastko (“Chocolate Cake” in Polish is the nickname chosen by Kamila from Poland), especially taking into account their popularity on deviantART.

I’m not the first who discovers the photos by Tristetriste. At least, Google finds a dozen of blogs and image collections of all kinds featuring some of them. And I cannot add any information about the photographer/model to that provided in her profile on deviantart, nor confirm that the information is correct. But I cannot deny myself the pleasure of posting a few of this artistic and aesthetic photos to this week’s column.

Here are two photos by Tristetriste (Zuna Potočná). She is from Slovakia and calls herself an Experimental Photographer.

I’ve discovered (not a big discovery though) that so often photographs when turning into something called “desktop wallpapers” lose all connections with their authors. Of course, such great sources of beautiful and artistic desktop wallpapers as InterfaceLIFT, for instance, fully respect photographers and their rights. But there are some exceptions.

Recently, I’ve found nice and poetic images of unknown photographer. I saw his pictures on different sites (for example, link1, link2, link3, link4 – sometimes with inappropriate comments of the visitors), but couldn’t find any information about the photographer and about the source from which the images were taken. Fortunately, some EXIF information with the line “Artist: Funstyle Chu” survived in one of the photos and after some googling I ended at Funstyle’s photostream on Flickr.

Funstyle is from Taipei, Taiwan. The images below are from his White Waltz & black fruit obsession – a set on Flickr (translated automatically by Google Translator 🙂 – I don’t speak Chinese). The model’s name is Mikako (if I understand correctly).

The photostream (445 visitors daily on average) contains dozens of well-made photographs.

This week’s art column is devoted to Muse1979‘s Photography. Muse is Official Beta Tester on deviantART, Model, Actress, Writer, Creative Director, Liberal, and Atheist from London, United Kingdom. She explains

I am the model in my images (never the photographer) but all the concepts behind the images I post to DA are my own. I also design the majority of the sets, makeup and clothing (if any!).

On her website Muse notes that

the images contained within the pages of this site have been created with the sole intention of portraying the nude body as art…. There is an unbelievably wide spectrum between beautiful expressions of the nude human form and the portrayal of explicit sexual acts.

She wrote in the comments to her latest submission to deviantART that she was feeling a little melancholy during these, so we just went with it… It is called Time after time

Here’s one more example of her incredible contributions to deviantART, Early one morning… (“I love crisp winter mornings…”, she writes)

In this post I’d like to share a few photographs by David Winge, Nude Photographer from Orange, California. I think it would be rash from me to give any comments to the photos taken by the real professional.

The newest photo I found on deviantART is Fly Away, inspired, as I understand it, by the model Mila Ringo and Lenny Kravitz.

The same beautiful model may be seen on the image From Within (one of the photos I like the most) submitted to deviantART ten days ago.

And one more photo. This time in color – Hope (submitted yesterday). Model: NevaehLleh.
