Audrey Munson (June 8, 1891 – February 20, 1996) was an American model and actress, considered as the first nude star. She has appeared in “Inspiration” (1915) which is believed to be the first American motion picture to feature nudity by a leading actor. Inspiration was a silent film directed by George Foster Platt. This film tells the story of a sculptor’s model. It managed to avoid the possible ban, because the censors didn’t want to appear as prohibitors of art. So, nudity was excused by reference to art. The film was a box office success.
